there are no tears in heaven
ice hung from her face, dangling
off her lashes, closing her eyes for eternity.
her fingers a bitter ghost that numbs
as they glide over the cracks
                    silencing the unspoken screams
                    poised on now frozen lips,
panic should be swelling instead
          of ebbing, skating away, smooth.

To a Constant Hero
I never needed to believe in heroes unreal;
the hero of my life has always been you.
you make excuses that the tears are from a movie
but I always thought they were true--
but like any superhero, you've met your villain:
a monster that stalks from within.
you're feeling tired but the burden cannot be taken off
as simply as a jacket full of holes that no longer keeps out the cold.
but this is a fight you must fight alone--
like all superheroes do (but haven't you always?).
always been reassured just by your presence
because there was nothing you could not do.
all I can say now is that I am here for you.
you can let the truth come out.
together, we're going to take this cancer down
because the good guys are supposed to win, every time, in the end.

The Stray
I recall that the weather was sunny –but that may just be memory recalling happy content feelings. The air was warm with springtime cheer and the worlds was once again flourishing with life after a long, snowy winter known to these northern parts; it was nice to get out and about to stretch legs still thawing from trumping in the snow all winter between classes. Kevin and I had also been in the car for over three hours to drive all the way to see our favorite comedian. The big names never come to Northern Maine so we had to travel to New Hampshire to complete one of my lifelong dreams. I do not remember the show in much detail, but I do remember the time before the show with perfect clarity.
I have an obsession with wandering cemeteries and a well-gated one was right near the location of the show we were going to see.
"Lets go explore history," I slide my arm under his and tug him in the direction I want him to go in. I do not know if he shares the same thrill I share about wander

Chaotic rumblings rambling through
tight corridors, smashing priceless antiques,
breaking confines within prison mines
with not a peep to tell them no.
I wonder where next they will go
and what will be created in their destruction.

My Christmas Wish
Twirling in the warmth of blankets and pillows
like the snow just outside my window;
arms stretched out to either side,
stay where you are and enjoy the ride.
In our minds, we can be on a sleigh
just find us some horses and be on our way.
Snuggled up with cocoa on our laps,
when in reality we're just taking a wintery nap.
Money's tight but that doesn't mean we can't pretend
that a fire place is roaring inside our head,
break out the wine that is actually just water,
and sit beside me and kiss me just a little bit longer.
Turn off all the lights but leave the Christmas ones on,
Flip through the channels and find a soft, romantic song,
Offer me your hand and lets dance for a few,
Run your hands down my sides and whisper "I love you."
We do not need anything fancy to say we're in love,
Do not need any riches or any white doves,
though presents are nice, they are not a need
all I want is you right here with me.
So lets pretend for the evening that it's snowy instead of rain,
and our apartm

captured in a star
Touch me, she urges,
breathlessly, reaching for his hand,
pale lighting from the moon
sneaking past the curtains and crawling
through the room. Her blonde hair is silver,
and her eyes are chasms, challenging the depths
of the sea. He has never quite known such a need,
Where? He is nervous, and his hands
have become like aliens, unknown
to even their master, clammy and
uncertain, they reach out to a destination
that seems to be growing further and further away,
like a tease who never wants to give.
Touch me where the stars reach their limits,
she brings her arms over her head, like a standstill
dance, but without the gown, blankets surround
her hips as they fall away from her breasts,
spotlighted by the moon as if this is the moment
the glow has been waiting for.
Where is that? He is confused, shaking
in his frustration, not knowing how to draw her near,
afraid by the time he is there, like a star, her brightness
will fade and she will disappear entirely.  The sheets

my land is your land.
The world is ours,
between waves of beige and flower-print,
indentations in the feathery snow
refers to history of past encounters
whether in peace or in war,
the circumstance is always changing.
Soft caresses of fingertips,
uncover very little information
but the anticipation gives more answers
to what we want to know
instead of hoping to satisfy some need.
The voyage is always short
but the journey is just beginning.
We see what we feel
and hear what we want to believe.
                              The world is ours,

She shoves him against the door,
tears are rolling down her face.
Pain in her eyes that he cannot describe
lips that once smiled now form a snarl.
Nails painted red dig into his skin,
fingers twisting to grab a hold of something.
He wants to reach and put his arms around her,
he wants to reassure her that everything is okay.
He should be apologizing but she knows the lies.
Right now all her eyes are asking is "why?"
She shoves him in an attempt to be strong,
but her soul has weakened—no longer does she belong.
She pulls away, closes the door,
and leaves him there as he falls to the floor.
Please come back,
but he knows she won't. She's smarter than that.
One mistake, two broken hearts
sometimes in a play, not everyone gets a part.

Am I fool for wishing to know
everything that has happened in the past?
Can I mark you on my calendar
and claim you for a whole entire night?
Open your soul to me
like a book full of wisdom and mystery--
                                      I am intrigued.
The people you miss
The people you have loved.
The people that broke your heart.
The people that have made you cry.

I feel like everyone wants pretty girls--
with perfectly proportioned curves.
Naked is best—but a little clothing
doesn't hurt anybody.
Their eyes seem dead
but to others, I guess that is sexy.
Hair flowing
Make-up glowing
I wonder how
they look beneath
the facade and poses.
Are they just puppets
or have we all been fooled
by the puppeteers?

The Fairy Tale Ending :icondoorfromheaven:doorfromheaven 10 23
Silly Mistake
I reached up and grabbed the brightest star,
I could not resist because there was something about its charm--
that reminded me of you.
I placed it in my pocket and it kept me warm,
and when the sky got dark, it brought light to the storm--
reminding me of you.
I set it on my nightstand when it was time to sleep,
closed my eyes, feeling safe, because it was watching over me--
which reminds me of you.
The one who was always there
when I was alone and feeling scared.
Your arms around me,
a smile on your face,
which told me I always held a place
in your heart and soul.
I reached up and grabbed the brightest star,
thinking if I brought it to you, traveling so far,
you'd be impressed and come back with me.
Because without you,
I'm like the night without the moon.
No stars shine and dance,
not even the wind passes by, not even by chance.
So take this star
I've made my wish--
come back to me,
and I promise
to only make
silly mistakes.

throbbing beneath my lips,
         sweat dripping down my fingertips,
breath cool against heated skin,
                   a refreshing shudder
                   a growing desire...
can I be blamed
for wanting to spend eternity with my love?
My body hungers
without the hormones
to say I am satisfied.
I keep needing.

Loved and Lost?
My love for you is strong
Growing each and every day
Yet when my heart comes crashing down
I have nothing good to say
My shadow hides my spirit
My darkness shows the hole
The hole of great despair
It gives me no great goal
For you I long for in my sleep
Day after day I show more sorrow
No greater thoughts of life
Only thoughts of no tomorrow
You are my love and soul and passion
I would give you my forever
Yet having you maybe selfish
So maybe I deserve you never
The day my world comes crashing down
Is the day you leave for good
I never want you to go
But in the best of you, you should
There is a question that is always asked
Would you rather love and lose?
I guess I have no other decision
But take that path to choose

In the early hours, when he is still asleep, she begins counting the tiny black and white tiles plastered to the ceiling of their flat. Some are chipped, some are covered by a layer of dust, and some are not tiles at all, but cockroaches in disguise. By 143 he has stretched his arms and kissed her neck, by 206 he has tied his shoes and lit a cigarette, and by 262 he's always gone. She knows that the smell of coffee will dissipate by 329 and that if she can bother getting out of bed to call her worried mom for once, or even just go to the damn bathroom, he will be back by 2338.
If she counts slowly.
Sometimes, late at night, when she has named all of the constellations she knows without the familiar sound of his second-hand car pulling into their garage, she likes to sit and ponder, with a bottle of Jack Daniels, where she went wrong. She wonders if by living here with him she's wasting away the best years of her life, years she could have spent at college in order to get a job and b

I told you that I don't wait
So why am I up so late
All you gave me was "maybe"
I'm deperate for the possibility
I tell you there's nothing wrong
So why do all these sad songs
Keep haunting me each night
As the tiredness I fight
You must have noticed my lies
So why don't you ever ask why
To myself I quietly keep this pain
Hide my crying in the rain
I wish you'd tell me what to do
So I can be everything to you
I wish you'd tell me what to do
So I could be anything to you

a lover, a fighter, a biter, a writer... I seek adventure and lazy days. The ocean waves match my heart beat and sometimes I crave fish (sushi, to be exact). I'm addicted to coffee, in all shapes and forms, and a good book which features love and suspense in each chapter. I adore poetic lines and can have my breath easily taken away. Terrible with my perception of time, distance, and walls. I work two jobs, go to college full-time, and in love with a man I hope to spend my life with. Each word I write is for him with wishes that it speaks to others who may stumble upon it. I'm average in almost everything except when it comes to my capacity to love. My heart never stops growing (nor does my sense of humor).
First, I would like to thank everyone for at least their kind words and support. I raised a little over 100 dollars to release some of that burden off my parents' shoulders financially this Winter. My dad is still having problems working his ebay business and people are jerks and keep asking for refunds when he says it might be a few days until he can ship things out. I do not understand how urgent people must want things that they cannot wait a couple extra days. If they need something so bad, I do not think relying on ebay in the first place is all that wise. That is just my thoughts, though. We are holding on to the hope that he will get better and the cancer will go into remission. Right now they are saying the average is 16 months left to live since he was first diagnosed. That's a huge difference from the 20 years I was still hoping to have left to spend. AT LEAST.  But miracles happen. He is staying positive, and I am trying to do the same.

After making a little bit over 200 cookies this past weekend, I have finally sent out all my cookie tins (mostly). Now I can finally relax a little bit and hopefully get some writing done before taking a trip out to Colorado. I've seen a lot of interesting contests going around and hoping to try getting back into the swing of things. I need practice. I desperately want to become a better writer and not sure exactly how to be a writer people would actually pay to hear or read. I have a lot of inspiration here on this lovely site but reading their works also makes me feel a bit discouraged thinking ("Oh man, I could never write like that!" "Oh wow, what an interesting way of looking at things... why can I never think of anything original?") Not the best thoughts in the world but they are there currently so it is an obstacle I have to get over. I've seen a lot of clubs that I think would be cool to join but am so frightened by people and rejection that I always end up running away. =( So if you have any ideas on where I should plant my butt to learn some good fashion poetry, please point me in that direction.

A question: How do you get inspired? How long do you poke at a piece until it finally feels right? What's cliche? What's overdone? Ok, so this is more than one question. Mostly, I just want your thoughts about what is "good" and what is "bad" in terms of writing.

I want to make some guidelines for myself because the year 2011 is the year I make a name for myself (hopefully).

Thanks for spending your precious time reading my journal :p And thanks even more if you respond!
