A Raging Storm

In the horizon, above the pines and evergreens—
Across the vast meadow where the grass sways in the breeze
Beyond the sound of the alarmed birds calling in fear
Seeking refuge in the shadows not found here,

Ominous clouds creep through the heavens in silence—
A monster with hatred in its wake and with a vengeance
Seeking two lovers with a desire to destroy—
It’s thunderous destruction it began to deploy.

Gone away from the light for their love was forsaken
But with their hearts on the line, it was theirs for the taking.
They hadn’t looked back, but they had been pursued—
With storm clouds over ahead, they feared they were doomed.

Away they took off in a wingless flight dash—
Across the rivers and valleys, but the storm was too fast.
The wind curled around them—it beckoned and called
No longer able to stand, they got down and crawled.

Into the bushes, for a moment unseen
The two lovers knew they were to never be free.
He held her close—he smoothed her hair
He whispered to her that he would always care.

Tears stood in her eyes but she pulled him in close
She only wished that time could move slow—
Her hands touched his cheek—his hands on her back
Together they would undergo the attack.

In the silence that lingered within the calm
Their future they saw upon their palms—
Knowing smiles spread across their tender lips
And the two lovers departed with one last kiss.

The storm grew violent for it had been deceived
But the angels celebrated; they were relieved—
In their hearts, a love blossomed and grew strong
Because nothing can break apart what belongs.
